FAQs

What BMI range is considered normal?

For adults, a BMI from 18.5 to less than 25 is generally considered a healthy weight range. A BMI below 18.5 is underweight, 25 to less than 30 is overweight, and 30 or higher falls into the obesity range.

What BMI is considered high risk?

A BMI of 30 or above is classified as obesity. BMI 35 to less than 40 is Class 2 obesity, and BMI 40 or higher is Class 3 obesity, often called severe obesity.

Is a BMI of 25 dangerous?

A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight. It does not automatically mean you are unhealthy, but it may indicate a higher risk when combined with high waist size, poor diet, inactivity, high blood pressure, or diabetes risk factors.

Why can BMI be misleading for some people?

BMI does not separate fat, muscle, bone, or water weight. Athletes, bodybuilders, older adults, and people with different body compositions may need waist size, body fat percentage, and medical history checked alongside BMI.
